Travelling bag

Leather, metal, cloth, cardboard. The end of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th century, Western Europe.


A convenient travel bag was a necessary thing for those who often had to travel by carriage by earth roads. The rigid construction prevents the contents from any damage and even fragile things may be carried inside the bag. The unlock system immediately opens the insides turning the bag into a kind of locker. No wonder that such bags though of a slightly smaller size were popular among the doctors. Ampoules and vials with medicine could not get broken inside it while an open bag turned into a portable first aid kit. Perhaps Bulgakov while his service as a country doctor in 1916-1917 owned such a travelling bag.
